The word “coronel” comes from the word “crown”, because the head of the lance is decorated with a 4 pointed crown.
This coronel model is inspired by the lance heads used in jousting during the Middle Ages and Renaissance; the polymer used here is particularly dense, in order to prevent the lance shaft from passing through the enemy’s shield at the moment of impact. Ideal for the joust, opposing two knights seeking to break their lances on each other’s shield.
It can also be used as a heel for our poleaxe, spear, or English bill simulators.
We recommend a round lance with a tip section diameter of about 3.6 cm and a length greater than 300 cm. Ideally, balsa wood for the lance meant an easier (and more dramatic!) break upon contact. Ash was very common wood type, otherwise.
Dimensions (Black Coronel):
- Length: 12 cm
- Width: 5 cm
- Socket: 3.5 cm x 3.5 cm
Dimensions (Silver Coronel):
- Length: 11.5 cm
- Width: 4 cm
- Socket: 29 mm x 29 mm
This range of simulators was developed for HEMA by Black Armoury and we recommend sourcing your shaft locally. The synthetic material allows for vigorous use of the simulator while providing possibilities for customization (painting, some reshaping, etc.). These last characteristics also make these products excellent for parallel uses: re-enactment, stage, cinema, or even cosplay. (Haft sold separately)
Please note that the painted finish varies from simulator to simulator, and may not exactly match displayed product images.
